Announcing Our New Faculty Members
Alberto Martinez and Robin Cho
Alberto Martinez and Robin Cho
Alberto Martinez
has been playing keyboard instruments since the age of 6.
He began his formal training in his native Mexico as a piano student of Jose Sobrino, who was then known nationally for his remarkable musicianship.
After studying with several other teachers until he was 16, Alberto enrolled the
National Conservatory in Mexico City.
As a student of Gonzalo Ruiz Esparza, Alberto not only focused on learning and performing as a pianist, he also gained a great deal of musical knowledge in the areas of composing, counterpoint and music theory.
His participation in the National Conservatory's ensemble program provided an important foundation for what was to come later.
In 1988, Alberto began composing jingles for radio and television using MIDI technology to compose and met with great success.
Because of this, he came to Boston in 1995 to get additional training. Because of his previous studies in Mexico, he was able to earn his Bachelor of Music Degree (Summa Cum Laude) from
the Berklee College of Music
in 1998-completing a degree in Music Production and Engineering.

Robin Cho
a native of South Korea, studied classical piano from an early age.
By the time she was in high school, she was an accompanist for the school chorus and served as its representative at the district-wide piano competition.
Robin is a graduate of
Ewha Women's University
where her keyboard work for the group Mythos sparked her interest in musical theatre.
Ms. Cho came to Boston in 1997 to study at Berklee College of Music.
She earned her Diploma in Professional Music in 2000 majoring in Performance and Arranging.
During her studies with famed jazz pianist
Laszlo Gardony,
her training in improvisation inspired her to start composing.
Her recent composition, Voyage: Music for Dance will be premiered at the Boston University Theatre in the fall of 2008.
From 2000 to 2008, Robin worked as the Supervisor of Berklee's Computer Music & Media Lab.
There she helped students learn how to use technology to improve their musical skills.
Whether it was notating their compositions, doing music theory exercises or creating MIDI recordings of their musical ideas, Robin provided the necessary guidance.
